Do not judge Rody Duterte if you do not know what is in his heart.

Beyond the cussing, the sarcasm-laced monologues, the angry rhetorics and the threatening messages, the real Rody Duterte considers everybody he talks to as special.

A picture posted by Ariel Pascua and shared by journalist Edwin Espejo showed the Duterte who treats every human being as special.

Duterte, who was seated in a table with General Santos City Mayor Ronel Rivera during the Jaycees affair on Jan. 16, was captured by Pascua’s camera listening intently to a waiter whom he and Rivera engaged in a conversation.

Would other top ranking political personalities have accorded the waiter that much attention and obviously, respect? I doubt it.

That is the real Duterte.

That is the same Duterte who cried when he saw bodies strewn all over the streets of Tacloban City after Typhoon Yolanda.

That is the same Duterte who personally called up and comfort an Overseas Foreign Worker (OFW) who was seen crying in a video posted in the social media after he announced that he was not running for President.

That is the same Duterte who personally buys toys for and spends Christmas and his birthdays with children suffering from cancer in the Rotary Club initiated House of Hope in Davao City.

That is the same Duterte who got off from his pick up and ordered his driver to bring home a mother and child stranded in the floods following a heavy rain in Davao City.

That is the same Duterte who would go out of his way to attend to concerns and problems of friends like me and comfort them in the lowest moments of their lives.

That is the same Duterte whose humanness will make him a President who could truly understand the feelings of the downtrodden and poor Filipinos.

That is the same Duterte who will be remembered in history as truly a People’s President.
